Disney’s Old Key West resort is one of a number of “Deluxe Villa” getaways that Disney has in and around Walt Disney World. Opened in 1991, Old Key West is themed in a turn-of-the-century Key West style. With its pastel shaded buildings, superb planting and gives this resort a relaxed get-a-way feel to it.

The Rooms at Old Key West

If you’ve read the recent post about the 2 bedroom villa at OKW, you’ll see that the resort rooms are really spacious and have all the facilities you could possibly need. The rooms at Old Key West are the biggest compared to other resorts in the same class. As an example, take a look at the difference in room sizes at the following resorts.

Studio 1 Bedroom 2 Bedroom Three Bedroom
Old Key West 390 Sq Ft 942 Sq Ft 1395 Sq Ft 2375 Sq Ft
Saratoga Springs 355 Sq Ft 714 Sq Ft 1075 Sq Ft 2113 Sq Ft

Swimming pools at Disney’s Old Key West Resort

There are four swimming pools at Old Key West, a main pool and three smaller pools dotted around. Towels are available at all the pools.

Main Pool

The main pool at Old Key West is obviously the most popular. The main pool is the only one that has lifeguards posted, with the other three being unattended.

The main pool is quite large and is loosely divided into two areas. One half has a fun sandcastle shaped slide which is popular with young and old. A slightly quieter area is the other half of the pool, down by the Lighthouse building. Inside the lighthouse is a sauna and theres a spa pool just tucked behind some planting.

The main pool is also used for organised games and recreation during the day. As an example while I was there, there was organised Disney Bingo where a cast member gets all the kids involved to guess which characters he is imitating and mark them off on a bingo card. Occasionally there’s also Discos and barbecues held at the pool.

Dining Options

One complaint about Old Key West is the limited amout of dining options. You can’t really argue about that to be honest. Old Key West doesn’t have a food court of any sort, unlike Saratoga Springs Artist’s Palette. What the Old Key West resort does have is Olivia’s Cafe, a table service restaurant and Good’s Food To Go as your counter service choice. There’s also The Turtle Shack Snack Bar which is located at the Turtle Pond Road swimming pool.

Olivia’s Cafe

Located just inside the Hospitality area and next door to the Conch Flats General Store, Olivia’s Cafe is open daily from 07:30 AM until 10:oo PM and accepts Advanced Dining Reservations although when we visited there alway appeared to be plenty of tables available.

The menu could be pretty much be described as “American”, I would say its very much a “homely” and filling menu. With classic breakfast items such as pancakes, french toast, omelets and the Olivia’s Breakfast (Two eggs, breakfast potatoes, buttermilk biscuit or toast, with choice of bacon, sausage, or ham) you’ll find something that suits mostly everyone.

Lunch and dinner has items such as Cheeseburgers, ribs, steaks and a selecton of seafood dishes, as well as classics such as meat-loaf.

Good’s Food To Go

Good’s Food To Go is situated just along the pier, across from the main pool. It’s basically just a counter service kiosk with a few picnic tables overlooking the lake. It’s opening hours are 07:30 AM til 10:00 PM so you can use your counter service credits all day here if you are on the Disney Dining Plan. That said, the food isn’t the most inspiring in the world. Breakfast items include the Breakfast Croissant Sandwich (eggs, bacon, American cheese) at $5.99 and the Breakfast Platter (eggs, bacon, breakfast potatoes, biscuit) at  $6.79.

Burger Goods Food To Go

Lunch and dinner options are your typical Chicken Nuggets, Burgers, Nachos and a few sandwich options. It’s fair to say you wouldn’t go out of your way to dine here, but it is handy if you have spare DDP credits to use or you want a quick bite.

Again, if you are on the Disney Dining Plan you can collect your refillable mug here. Along with the Turtle Shack Snack Bar, this is the place you fill your refillable cup with Soda, Coffee, Tea and Hot Chocolate.
